frequently asked questions.
Do I need a referral?
No — you can self-refer and book directly. A referral or Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) / Eating Disorders Plan (EDP) from your GP or psychiatrist is required only if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate.
How do I book and what happens after I book?
Referrals can be emailed to Linked Psychology at contact@linkedpsychology.com.au or sent via Medical Objects - provider number 6685487T.
If you don't have a GP referral, you can make an online enquiry via the Contact Us page on our website. Your enquiry will be answered within three business days, and you'll either be offered an appointment or placed on the waitlist, depending on availability.
Once you have been offered an initial appointment, you can book future sessions via our online booking portal, which shows your clinician's current availability. After booking, you'll receive confirmation along with intake information.
We recommend scheduling a few sessions in advance to maintain continuity of care. Your clinician will discuss the recommended appointment frequency with you during your first session.
Can I speak to someone on the phone about my appointment?
Our phones are not attended, so the best way to reach us is by email at contact@linkedpsychology.com.au or by text message. This helps us respond promptly and keep your communication confidential.
Please note: We do not offer a crisis service. If you need immediate support, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or call 000 in an emergency.
Do you offer bulk-billed sessions?
Unfortunately, Linked Psychology does not provide bulk-billed sessions.
How long are therapy sessions?
Therapy appointments are typically 50–60 minutes long.
Do you provide couples counselling?
We don't provide couples counselling at Linked Psychology; however, from time to time it can be helpful to have your partner attend a session to understand your treatment plan and provide support for your goals.
Can I receive letters or reports?
Yes — letters and reports (e.g., for NDIS, Centrelink, insurers) may be prepared at your clinician's discretion. These are not usually included in clinical session fees and will incur an additional charge. Please discuss your needs and associated costs in advance.
What happens when I arrive?
We are on the second floor of Taylor Medical Centre (18/40 Annerley Road, Woolloongabba). Take the lift or stairs, turn left, and you'll find the clinic entrance. Please help yourself to tea or coffee in the waiting area — your clinician will meet you there at your appointment time.
Where can I park?
Client parking is available in the second car park next to the car park with the boom gate. Metered street parking is also available on Catherine Street.
Is Linked Psychology accessible?
Yes — see our Accessibility Statement for full details. If you have specific access needs, please contact us before your appointment so we can support you.
Do you use AI in your practice?
Our clinicians use AI-assisted tools to support clinical note writing and improve record clarity and efficiency. These tools are used only to assist with documentation — they do not make clinical decisions or replace professional judgement. All data handling complies with our Privacy Policy and relevant professional standards.
You may opt in or opt out of AI-assisted note writing at any time; please indicate your preference during intake or via email.
Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP)
A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is created by your GP and allows you to access Medicare rebates for psychology sessions.
Who is eligible?
Anyone experiencing mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, or other psychological difficulties, may be eligible. Your GP will assess your needs and, if appropriate, prepare a MHCP.
How do I get one?
Book a longer GP appointment and ask about a Mental Health Care Plan. Your GP will talk with you about your mental health, complete the necessary paperwork, and provide a referral to a psychologist.
What does it entitle you to?Up to 10 rebated psychology sessions per calendar year under Medicare.
Initially, you are referred for 6 sessions. After completing these, your GP will review your progress and can approve another 4 sessions for the same calendar year.
Are there out-of-pocket costs?
Yes. Medicare pays a rebate for each session, but there is an out-of-pocket fee.
What happens if I use all 10 sessions?
You can continue to see your psychologist privately (without rebates) or discuss other referral options with your GP.
Who monitors my MHCP?
It is your responsibility to keep track of your plan and GP reviews. However, your clinician will also endeavour to help you stay on top of your sessions by reminding you when it’s time to see your GP for a review.
Eating Disorder Plan (EDP)
An Eating Disorder Treatment and Management Plan (EDP) is a specialised plan created by your GP for people experiencing eating disorders. It allows access to up to 40 rebated psychology sessions per year and 20 dietetic sessions under Medicare.
Who is eligible?
If you have a diagnosed eating disorder, your GP can assess whether you are eligible for an EDP. This usually involves a comprehensive medical and psychological review.
How do I get one?
Book a long appointment with your GP and request an Eating Disorder Plan. Your GP will complete an assessment, create the plan, and refer you to appropriate professionals (psychologist, dietitian, psychiatrist).
What does it entitle you to?
40 rebated psychology sessions per calendar year (in 4 blocks of 10 sessions).
20 dietitian sessions per calendar year.
Access to a multidisciplinary team to support your recovery.
Are there out-of-pocket costs?
Yes. Medicare provides a rebate per session, but there is an out-of-pocket fee.
What happens after 10 sessions?
Your GP must review your progress after each set of 10 sessions. It is best to book your review after your 8th session to ensure there are no delays.
What happens after 20 sessions?
To access the second 20 psychology sessions, you will need a psychiatrist review in addition to your GP review. Because wait times can be long, we recommend arranging this referral early.
Who monitors my EDP?
You are responsible for booking GP (and psychiatrist) reviews when required. Your clinician will also track your sessions and remind you when a review is due, and your clinician will provide the necessary progress letters to your GP.
